“The One with the Mother”.
What’s the hype with this vinegar craze, and why is it so popular? I swear this simple liquid used as a daily concoction is a LIFE SAVER.
Ok, maybe it doesn’t have a doctoral degree or any slew of health nuts behind it openly singing its praise, but that’s partially because if the “health” (Big Pharma) and food industries told you what was REALLY going on, they would undoubtedly suffer a profit hit from the turnaround of the informed public.
For all intents and purposes, I refer to good old apple cider vinegar (or ACV to be hip and short) as my medicine, my “health insurance” and my daily does-it-all.
I caught wise to the ACV hack about the same time I became a full-fledged vegan; it was my mid 20s life crisis moment of “I’m halfway to 30 which makes me almost 40, which means if I don’t change habits for the better now I’ll be looking like SHIT at 50 and sick beyond reproach by 60!”
Haven’t we all experienced some version of “come-hither” old age staring us down? We can either flip it the bird and go about our day like always… or we make changes.
I chose to make changes, and lots of them.
I was overweight, and couldn’t keep it off no matter what diet and calorie-counting I did. I was chronically fatigued with shot adrenal glands and paying for thyroid medication I was prescribed to take thrice daily. My hair was falling out at an alarming rate.. but what finally pushed me was one severe trip to the emergency room when my kidneys nearly shut down. In addition to committing myself to a healthier and more compassionate way of living (i.e. veganism), I started working with a waist trainer (you can read more about that HERE) and adhering to the guidelines of intermittent fasting.

I had heard it recommended before, but due to the sharp pungency and lack of appeal, I never got involved. Looking to find a way around expensive “health plans” offered and all other nonsense on the market, I decided that dedicating time to self education was the key I needed.
The more I read about ACV the more I was impressed. How could so few people be in the know about this amazing yet simple kitchen find? It is now, and has been for over 4 years, a staple of my counter and my life.
I take a diluted shot of ACV every morning. Well… almost every morning, save the few times I’m driving cross country or otherwise not able to have a bottle handy. The few rare times I felt myself start slipping “under the weather” or having an intense sinuses week, I’ll up my dosage to 2-3 times a day, depending. And like clockwork, within a few days I’m back to normal.
No antibiotics in over 4 years.
Not a single doctor appointment in over 4 years.
No OTC drugs, dyes, chemicals, or prescriptions in over 4 years.
The immune system booster (among other benefits) that this ACV is, I can be around friends and family during flu season and not get sick. I can sing in church choir next to someone with a cold who is blowing their nose and not get sick. I don’t claim superhuman abilities, but this magical drink brings me pretty damn close.
