Today on TV, I noticed an infomercial playing for Cindy Crawford’s “Meaningful Beauty” skincare line. I assume all TV advertisements are simply that — schemes for companies to sell, nothing more.
Curious, however, at her featured celebrity guest roster praising her product, I was inclined to do some more research as I made the assumption about how many women would easily jump on board with the celebrity endorsements and their special selling price hawking “If you call in the next 12 minutes!”
Mainly I was curious about whether or not their products were:
1) Vegan (i.e. cruelty-free, not tested on animals or containing animal byproducts)
2) Secretly toxic, including chemicals that are in NO way beneficial for topical use.
It didn’t take long at all, courtesy of Google search, to come across an article validating my worry, because apparently someone else beat me to the punch with the same thoughts, and let me say it doesn’t give the benefit of the doubt once you read the chemical toxins that are in these products.
I call this a 2-Cents Review because I haven’t tried this product, and have no intention of trying it. It’s more of an informed opinion review, but not randomly without a more serious message at hand:
My favorite part of veganism is that through having to meticulously read EVERYTHING that I eat or use topically for my self care or chemicals around the home for cleaning, I have gotten into the habit of checking and reading every detail and never leaving the choice of buying something up to face value or colorful advertisements. And this “Meaningful Beauty” scheme is but another example of just that.
Don’t believe me? Don’t take my word for it — Check out the article from Seattle Organic Restaurants:
“Toxic ingredients in anti-aging creams like ‘Meaningful Beauty’ are not ‘Meaningful’ or ‘Beautiful’. What the cosmetic industry won’t tell you is…”
Moral of the story? Don’t buy into schemes. Do your due diligence… with everything. Be an AWARE consumer. Know beyond a shadow of a doubt what you’re supporting, who is getting your money, and certainly know what the holy hell of chemical shitstorm is going on your face for Non-Denominational Jeebus sake.
There are a lot of advertising companies out there making beacoup bucks off the ignorant parrots who jump at the snazzy sparkles of visuals, and there’s no excuse to be supporting animal cruelty or celebrities profiting off poor 98%-ers who don’t have the wherewithal to do their homework before buying crap products. This is but one example, there are a million more out there and I certainly don’t have any personal vendetta against Cindy or anyone on her team for doing their thang, except for the fact that they’re literally lying to people and taking their money. They aren’t the only ones. The Kardashians are scheme-a-plenty with all their falsely advertised junk and yet look at how pretty they sit atop their franchised mountain. We the People have to band together and demand better, expect better, and hopefully receive better.
That being said, as a statement in regard to beauty, preventative care is the #1 solution to true, lasting beauty. Take care of yourself DAILY with good, consistent habits and choices. It will pay off. If you’re not vegan already, you should consider it for your health (inside and out).
