If I were to tell you that on average, over 75% of the products you utilize and ingest daily contain legal poison that eventually will kill you, would you believe me?
To even contemplate that everything we know, everything we’ve grown up with, the things we feel we have control over as an adult… are ALL moot… well, that’s a downright scary notion indeed. But it also happens to be (unfortunately) true. I’ve come to find out that the best remedy is a natural, home remedy.
As with anything, I actually do not recommend you believe me and take my word for it, and you hardly need to with Google supplying numerous resources from scholastically-backed journals, papers, and various mediums all coming to the same conclusive evidence — we pay to be poisoned daily, we don’t even know it, and in fact, we’re not meant to. The sheer fact that the majority are unaware of this dilemma speaks volumes, and simultaneously indicates that so far the plan has worked out exactly as it was meant to.
Every individual who can rub two pennies together has the responsibility to take it upon themselves to question everything they know, and question it again. Don’t stop asking questions, do not stop demanding answers, because complacency is all it takes for evil forces to continue to prevail.
And why is it the responsibility of each individual? Because consumerism is what drives demand, and as much power as corporations have, “WE the people” are the majority, and we are sadly relinquishing our personal power to the point that we are paying for poison, and coming back for more.
Without going into a deep and detailed tangent, I’ll attempt to keep this article a little more concise for readability’s sake and focus on the two main evils we are against as a “free” people:
1. Big Pharma (i.e. pharmaceutical companies)
2. The Food Industry (global collective of businesses)
The only groups not likely affected (for now) by these two corporate evils are subsistence farmers (who survive on what they grow themselves) and hunter-gatherers in remote areas (think “wilderness”, like the infamous Mick Dodge). Unless you’re in one of those two groups, then I am absolutely speaking to you. Both Big Pharma and the Food Industry giants utilize the same set of artificial dyes, sweeteners and preservative agents across the board that indubitably cause harm to your body and mind. Allow me to briefly detail more about some of the poisons commonly found in grocery stores and household products/medicines that, due to most often daily use, will have a substantially negative impact long-term on your health and happiness:
1. Aspartame: This one is a killer! Literally. Among the side effects from this commonplace sweetener are-
- cancer.
- seizures.
- headaches.
- depression.
- attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
- dizziness.
- weight gain.
- birth defects–> Want to know more?
2. Carrageenen: This is a little tricky because unlike the better-known aspartame, this artifical sweetener is likewise poisonous but usually used as a substitute in many products where a producer will forego aspartame and put this in instead to fool a consumer into thinking they’ve done a good job in avoiding aspartame and sugar outright. Unfortunately, this ignorance comes at a price. Carrageenan is known to cause a plethora of issues including but not limited to-
- inflammation.
- bloating.
- irritable bowel syndrome.
- glucose intolerance.
- colon cancer.
- food allergies.
Feel free to research further if you’re curious.
3. MSG (monosodium glutamate): While naturally occurring in some foods, this non-essential amino acid can be harmful when used by the food industry in unhealthy additive doses and lead to heart palpitations, nausea, headaches, and chest pain. Needless to say, this is best left off your plate.
4. Sugar count: In short, according to the American Heart Association standard, the average sugar consumption should be no more than 25 grams for women, and 37.5 grams for men per day. Nuance of natural sugar versus artificial sugar aside, without even asking what you eat in a day I can guarantee you as a nation we consume WELL over what we should be. Quick facts? A classic Starbucks latte contains 17g of sugar. You get into the flavored lattes and you’re looking at about 40g of sugar, give or take. One coca cola bottle? 39g of sugar. You do the math. No wonder we have a nation riddled with obesity.
5. Artificial dyes (only referencing four here to be quick, though they’re all bad in their own right):
Often found in NUMEROUS foods, candies, and more, these artificial dyes are highly toxic substances that lead to innumerable health issues after repeated digestion. These are just a few quick facts;
– “Red #40 Lake” – Doritos! Skittles! Fruit snacks! They all contain this dye which comes from petroleum distillates or coal tars. Still sound appetizing? Other components are even listed by the FDA themselves as equivalents of carcinogens.
– “Yellow #5/#6” – similarly to Red #40, both these yellow dyes are frequently found in cosmetics as well as food, and known to contain cancer-causing substances AND cause ADHD. Further, “it has also been linked to asthma, migraines, thyroid cancer, anxiety, clinical depression, blurred vision, purple spots on your skin and un-explainable itchy skin”.
– “Blue #1” – Believe it or not, your everyday marshmallows, liquid antibiotics, and many beverages (looking at you, Powerade/Gatorade) contain this nasty chemical compound. And that’s just off the top of my head. Among other issues, it can damage your chromosomes, cause cancer, migraines, and hyperactivity.
“You know the beautiful pink hue that makes a salmon fillet look so delicious? And the toasty brown color that makes your cinnamon-flavored oatmeal look fresh from your own kitchen? Well, it’s probably fake—and riddled with harmful chemicals to boot.” –> There is an extended (outside) article for those who are interested in learning more here.
It’s beyond sad (and heading straight for tragic) that these artificial dye, sweeteners, additives, and preservatives are not only commonplace, but LEGAL. You wouldn’t give your toddler drugs or cigarettes or alcohol, right? In comparison, these harmful and oft-deadly chemicals are no better than such toxins and yet they’re not only legally allowed, but frequently used. Don’t believe me? All you have to do is flip over the boxes to the ingredients list and READ – THE – LABELS. It’s a habit I formed when I first went vegan and needed to read through the fine print of everything to ensure I was not supporting or accidentally ingesting anything that required animal cruelty of any degree. I guarantee you, if you take the worthy effort to start due diligence reading before you purchase products, you’ll be more than surprised at how many products you use daily blatantly contain poison. Why expose yourself, your family, your children, your friends to poisonous products? All it takes is some effort and personal care on your part, that’s it.
Hopefully sooner rather than later, consumers band together and stop purchasing poisonous b*llshit products so that the companies providing are forced to come up with HONEST alternatives. Each consumer has the responsibility, and each consumer gets to cast a vote. What will yours say about you? Remember, the best remedy is natural, home remedy. Nature has all the answers for every one of your questions– it just comes down to personal education and respecting what Mother Nature has bestowed upon us.
