“A vegan dog, like a vegan human, leaves a much smaller environmental paw print. That’s why we make premium food that’s plant-based and doesn’t do bad things to our planet.
We’re passionate about making a difference through our 100% animal-free products. When your pup adopts a plant-based diet, they’re taking a stance against animal cruelty.” –Statement courtesy of V-dog
Unlike some domesticated animals such as certain breeds of snakes or cats, man’s best friend can actually thrive similarly to man himself. That’s right — your dog(s) can THRIVE on a plant-based, cruelty-free diet!
I know how crazy this sounds. I myself was a skeptic to this idea of a dog being anything other than pointy-canine wolf descendants who can clearly chomp down meat and rawhide. This all changed when I encountered a vegan in my path who had raised their dog on a vegan diet — a special cruelty-free brand of dog food that delivers directly to your door, and offset with a meal of usually rice and chopped vegetables (think: corn, peas, carrots). This dog was not only much younger looking than she actually was, but she was in great health!
Upon rescuing my own dog, I had the perfect opportunity to try out my findings. True enough, not only did Ruby begin to come out of her shell and seem more vibrant, but her coat turned shinier and glossy. She’s now over 4 years old and people regularly ask if she is a puppy.
I’m not a scientist, and I won’t claim to be. I’m no scholar, PhD candidate, nor doctor. I’m a doting dog mom who wouldn’t do something that would harm my fur child. Quite the opposite — she usually has it better than I do! Among the many amenities in her life, she does eat her V-dog three times a day, and occasionally get a few pieces of raw apple or such.
Honestly? I spend a little more money on V-dog than traditional dog food, but here is where speciesism and “All Lives Matter” comes into play —
If I’m not willing to eat the leftover parts of downed cows and tendons of pigs and chickens, why would I feed them to my dog, whom I love as my own? Whom licks my face on occasion?
Instead, I treat her well and give her something I am proud to give her knowing it is not only truly healthy, but cruelty-free.
Again, we’re speaking specifically here about dogs, not to certain animals that must be carnivorous; I’ve heard of somewhere in Europe where vegan cat food is available. If so… delightful! However, this is just a stepping stone for the cruelty-free movement.
If you haven’t already, please check out the V-dog website HERE and do your own research. See if it’s something you would be willing to consider making a change in, for the good of your pet and our planet. 🙂
